About Position:
Are you excited about search technologies? Do you create new relevancy algorithms in your spare time? Are you familiar with Indexing and Search technologies? BOSS (Build your Own Search Service) is Yahoo!'s open search web services platform. We are the vertical search experts at Yahoo, serving both internal and external customers, including Techcrunch, Meme, GetMD and many others. We aim to be the single source of vertical search services across the company, and to expand our external customer base as well.
We are in heavy development and need some great back end Java, Erlang and PHP engineers to help us out.

Skills/Requirements:
Clear thinker and excellent problem solver
Experience with highly scalable, distributed server applications, such as Search, Mail, or Telecom
Reputation for clear and transparent communication, to team members, peers, and management
Significant experience with development on Unix platform
Excellent programming skills in Java and able to work effectively with object-oriented design
Excellent Java debugging skills
MS/PhD in Computer Science with at least 4 years of experience in software engineering.
Experience with Search technology (Lucene, Solr, Oracle based search, MySLQ Fulltext Indexing)
Experience with Erlang or a strong desire to learn Erlang.
Experience with distributed storage and replication.
PHP and Javascript experience.
Functions/Responsibilites:
You will help develop the next generation of hosted vertical search
You will be able to learn new programming languages and technology stacks quickly and be productive.
You will help diagnose problems in a distributed environment.
You will come up with new ideas on how to handle traffic, increase queries per second, improve our resilience to hardware and software issues, and implement many new and cool features to power internal and external web site search functionality.
