Description: Our client is seeking a Web Application Developer.
Skills/Requirements:
A BA/BS Computer Science or equivalent or 5 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Proficient with one or more open-source application development languages, such as Ruby, PHP, or Python
Experience with one more web application development lightweight frameworks, such as Rails, Zend, or Django
Experience managing deployment and tuning web applications
Experience with developing Web 2.0/AJAX enabled web interface
Experience with XML-related technologies including XML schema and XSLT
Experience implementing systems based on web services and service oriented architectures
Preference may be given to applicants with experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Semantic web technologies and RDF, and customizing Content Management Systems.
Education and/or background in biological sciences and biological taxonomy
Functions/Responsibilites:
Develop, maintain and support web applications to integrate information resources within our clients Research Division, including collection databases, a digital asset management system (primarily images and documents), and web mapping capabilities, for use by professional scientists and the public
